We hosted our first Sustainable Art Block Party on Saturday, June 11t. Following the morning clean up, we were joined by Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Central Ward Councilwoman Gayle Chaneyfield Jenkins, Newark Celebration 350 and the Newark Arts Council to formally unveil the Lincoln Park Washington Street mural. Created by local Newark artist Turf Warz under the guidance of Rodney Gilbert's Yendor Productions, the mural's vibrant theme "Culture Bubbles Up From the Bottom" is reflected in the waves of colorful hues that emanate from the concrete to the sky. The dedication was followed by performances from YOPAT's Dr. Cissy Houston Academy, and other local residents such as Sean Battle and the Evolve NJ Poets, singer Johnny Culver and residents of Integrity House.
Hope to see you next year at #RockTheBlock!
Keeping Lincoln Park Clean!
On the morning of Saturday June 11th, "The Coast" community came out to clean up Lincoln Park! From Lincoln Park to Washington, West Kinney, Governor and Crawford streets, the sounds of rakes and brooms filled the air. Joined LPCCD in the effort were our neighbors Great Oaks Charter School, Integrity House, and local community leaders. Everyone grabbed supplies provided by Home Depot, Option 1 Group Realty and Central Ward Councilwoman Gayle Chanyfield Jenkins and took an active role in beautifying the neighborhood. The community clean up was lead by our Lincoln Park Music Festival Sustainable Health and Wellness team.
